What ports do I need to enable for the PlanetDNS Client to work?
|
The PlanetDNS Client only utilizes TCP port 8081 to communicate with PlanetDNS Service Providers and UDP port 53 to determine if you are connected to the Internet.
The PlanetDNS Client does not listen on any port for incoming connections, so you generally do not need to make any changes to your firewall to allow the software to function.
You will need to open up UDP port 53 in order for the software to determine that you are connected to the Internet. If you block or firewall this port, the client will always stay offline and the software icon will be grey instead of green. If you do NOT want to enable this port, select the I connect through a Firewall option in the Connection tab.
If you are behind a firewall, you may also want to enable the Proxy option available in the Security tab. The proxy must be a HTTP proxy and not a SOCKS proxy.
