If you have a firewall installed or enabled, it will need to be configured to allow you to control your computer over the Internet from a remote location.

Why Does My Firewall Need to be Configured?

All firewalls are pre-configured at the factory to prevent computers on the Internet from accessing your computer directly. To allow Internet access to the PlanetRemote-enabled computer, certain firewall ports need to be opened.

As noted on the Ports Used by PlanetRemote page, PlanetRemote uses TCP ports 6600 and 6700 to access a single computer. TCP ports 6600 and 6700 will need to be opened in the firewall to allow Internet traffic access to the PlanetRemote-enabled computer.

NOTE: Due to vast differences in setup procedures used by various firewall software manufacturers, the PlanetDNS website contains instructions for only the most common types. If setup instructions to open a specific port of your firewall to incoming computer connections are not available on our website, please consult the product documentation.
